Bhubaneswar: A proposed fertilizer plant in Talcher in Angul district will become operational from September 2023, Union Fertilizers Secretary Chhabilendra Roul said here on Monday.
Roul said Talcher Fertilizers Ltd (TFL) has awarded the construction project for the plant on a lump sum term key (LSTK) contract basis to Wuhuan Engineering Co. Ltd of China at an estimated cost of Rs 8,000 crore. The Chinese company has begun the construction from Sunday.
He informed that the plant will have an annual production of 12 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of fertilizers. This will include a daily production of 2,200 tonnes of ammonia and 3850 tonnes of urea. Besides, the plant will produce an additional 100 metric tonnes of sulphur.
He also said that the plant will produce 2.38 million cubic metres of natural through coal gasification which will drastically cut down the import cost of LPG.
Roul said 10,000 people will be employed during the construction of the plant and 4,000 people will be employed after it is commissioned.
