Bhubaneswar: After the row over Tirupati laddus, a fresh controversy around the prasad served at Palani Temple in Tamil Nadu has gone viral on the internet.
In an interview on a YouTube channel, Tamil director Mohan G claimed that medicines causing impotency in men are being mixed with ‘panchamirtham’, the prasad being served at Tamil Nadu’s Palani Temple.
“I heard that medicine leading to impotency in men was mixed with panchamitham. That news was hidden and that panchamirtham was destroyed. We shouldn’t talk without proof, but there was no proper explanation given. Those working there told me that birth control pills were an attack on Hindus,” the director was quoted as saying.
As soon as the director’s interview went viral, the cybercrime unit of Trichy Police flung into action and arrested him on Tuesday.
However, according to a report in India Today, the director’s family is unaware of the reason behind his arrest.
Condemning the director’s arrest, BJP leader Ashwathaman tweeted, “No formal information was given to the family as to what the cause was and what the case was. This is against the Supreme Court order.”
Tamil Nadu Minister of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Sekar Babu stated that strict action will be taken against those spreading false information about the Palani Temple prasad.
Known for movies like Draupathi, Rudrathandavam, and Bagasuran, Mohan G started his career as a director with the film Pazhaya Vannarapettai in 2016.
