Bhubaneswar: Tapaswini Express was stranded for several hours on Tuesday morning as an overhead electric wire snapped in Sambalpur district.
According to sources, while the train was going from Puri to Hatia in Jharkhand, the high voltage wire snapped in a forest area between Sambalpur and Sikir railway station.
The wire reportedly snapped on the impact of blasting of stones at a nearby quarry by a private contractor. The people travelling in the train claimed that they heard a loud sound and the train came to a stop.
The sources said the driver stopped the train as he feared that the dangling high voltage wire may lead to a major mishap.
The Railways officials have rushed to the spot to repair the damaged wire and restore the movement of the train, the sources said.
