Bargarh: Vigilance officials on Thursday apprehended a holding tax collector of an NAC in the district on bribe charge.
Following a complaint that Dinabandhu Panda, the tax collector of Padampur NAC was demanding Rs 25,000 as bribe for transfer of holding number and reduction of annual holding tax in respect of a building purchased in the name of the complainant, the Vigilance laid a trap.
As per the Vigilance plan, the complainant went to give the bribe money to Panda in the latter’s office. While the tax collector was accepting the money, the Vigilance sleuths nabbed him red-handed and recovered the whole amount from his possession.
Sambalpur Vigilance has registered a case in this connection and further investigation is in progress.
Following the trap, the Vigilance has also launched simultaneous searches on properties of Panda at two places in Bargarh district.
