Cuttack: Police have arrested a teacher in the district for allegedly marrying four women including two during lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the complaint filed by two wives at the Mahila police station, the accused identified as Krushna Chandra Nayak, who works as an Art teacher in Gopinathpur Nodal High School, had first married a woman hailing from Cuttack as per Vedic rituals in 2001.

After leading the conjugal life for around 8 years, Nayak left his wife and married another woman who works as a nurse. After spending 3-4 years with his second wife, Nayak left her on some pleas.

Nayak had not divorced both the wives but taken away all the dowry items including gold ornaments and vehicles before leaving them.

Last year during the lockdown imposed in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, Nayak married two more women. On coming to know about it, Nayak’s first two wives lodged separate police complaints leading to the arrest of the teacher on Friday.
