Jajpur: A teacher of a government-run high school in Dharmasala area here has been arrested for allegedly raping his colleague on the pretext of marriage.

He has been identified as Binod Bihari Sethy (35), the headmaster in-charge of Sundaria High School.

Sethy, a native of Neulpur village, was arrested on Sunday on the basis of the teacher’s complaint, said Dharmasala police station IIC Umakanta Nayak.

According to the FIR lodged by the victim, they were in a relationship for over three years. However, he went back on his promise to marry her and assaulted her when she insisted for it.

“The lady teacher asked Sethy to marry her on Saturday. He turned it down and assaulted her physically when she insisted,” the IIC said.

When the woman screamed for help, her colleagues rescued her and admitted her to a community health centre (CHC). After being discharged from the hospital, she lodged a complaint with police in this regard on Saturday night, he added.
