Bhubaneswar: A 14-year-old girl suffering from COVID-19 was operated upon for an inflamed appendix by a team of surgeons of SUM COVID Hospital here.
The girl’s condition posed a challenge for the doctors as they had to take care of multiple health complaints that the teenager was suffering from.
The girl, Sanjukta Khillar of Patrapada area of the city was undergoing treatment in Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital for treatment of sickle cell anaemia. During this time, she tested positive for COVID-19 and was admitted to SUM COVID Hospital.
Dr. Lalit Nayak, Paediatric Surgeon and Dr Jagadish Prasad Sahu of Neo-natal Surgery department at IMS and SUM Hospital performed the operation. She was later attended to by Dr Priyadarshini Behera of Pulmonary Medicine department.
Sanjukta was discharged from the hospital after two weeks after getting cured of both the complaints. The girl’s family have thanked the hospital doctors and its staff for their care in time of need.
