Temperature Shoots Up To 40 Degree Celsius Or More In 10 Places Of Odisha; Jharsuguda Hottest

Bhubaneswar: As many as 10 places in Odisha recorded temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more on Monday even as the IMD forecast return of heatwave for three days from May 21.

According to the evening bulletin of regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, Jharsuguda recorded highest maximum (day) temperature in the state at 42.4 degree Celsius.

It was followed by Sambalpur (42), Sundargarh (41.7), Hirakud (41.6), Balangir (41.2), Boudh (41), Khurda (41), Nuapada (40.4), Bhawanipatna (40) and Keonjhar (40).

The IMD forecast that heatwave condition is very likely at one or two places in the districts of Nuapada, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Bargarh, Boudh and Balangir between 8.30 am of May 21 and 8.30 am of May 22.

However, the temperature is likely to drop and the state will receive heavy rainfall under the influence of a low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal from May 24.

The Met office said isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall may occur between May 20 and 24 and increase thereafter with scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) between May 25 and 28.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely in north Odisha on May 24-25 under the influence of a trough, running from northwest Uttar Pradesh to east Bangladesh in lower tropospheric levels.
