Srinagar: Two migrant workers were shot dead by terrorists in the Sonmarg area of Jammu & Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Sunday evening, reported India Today.
The attack occurred near an under-construction tunnel, according to officials. The identities of the deceased are not yet known.
Security forces were rushed to the site to secure the area and an investigation has been launched.
“Very sad news of a dastardly & cowardly attack on non-local labourers at Gagangir in Sonamarg region. These people were working on a key infrastructure project in the area. 2 have been killed & 2-3 more have been injured in this militant attack. I strongly condemn this attack on unarmed innocent people & send my condolences to their loved ones,” tweeted chief minister Omar Abdullah.
According to initial reports, the deceased duo was part of the construction team working on the Z Morh tunnel, which connects Gagangir to Sonmarg in Ganderbal.
Two days ago, a migrant worker from Bihar was reportedly murdered by terrorists in Shopian district of south Kashmir. Local people found the man, with heavy wounds, on a roadside. He was shifted to a nearby district hospital, but didn’t survive.
These are the first incidents of terrorism since National Conference’s Omar Abdullah took oath as chief minister of the Union territory.
