Copenhagen: There was a touch of Odisha in Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with his Danish counterpart Mette Frederiksen on Tuesday.
Modi, who arrived in Denmark from Germany on the second leg of his three-nation European tour, was greeted by Frederiksen at the airport.
Later, the two leaders met at the Danish PM’s official residence where Modi was in for a surprise. Frederiksen showed the Indian PM a Pattachitra painting adorning the wall.
Frederiksen had received the painting as a gift during her visit to India last year. It was the first visit by a Head of State to India post the COVID pandemic.
Modi explained to Frederiksen the significance of Pattachitra painting – one of the most distinct forms of traditional paintings of Odisha, done on a cloth.
The iconic paintings, domain of the Chitrakar community of painters, depict religious themes on Ramayana and Mahabharata epics, Krishna Lila and incarnations of Lord Vishnu.
