Bhubaneswar: In a praiseworthy act, school students captured a thief and then handed him over to the police in Palasuni area of Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
As per preliminary information, the incident took place near an ATM in Palasuni area of the state capital when the accused was trying to loot a jewellery showroom by spraying a sedative substance.
The thief was trying to flee the site when the school students, who were passing by, managed to overpower him.
Adopting a novel modus operandi, the thief used to spray some substance at the shopkeepers and salespersons and loot their stores. In this case, he was trying to flee after looting the showroon when the children caught hold of him.
The locals then thrashed him before handing him over to the Mancheswar police. The police have launched an investigation and detained the thief.
