Bhubaneswar: Twenty-one-year-old Yashoda Pandey from Odisha’s Nuapada district has made a name for herself by preventing child marriages in society. Yashoda has so far stopped 80 child marriages in the last three years in her district.
The Nuapada girl started preventing child marriages when she was only 16. She first learned about the disadvantages of child marriage through an NGO.
“I learned from the NGO about the disadvantages. I would like to appeal to all to respect girls. Society shouldn’t force boys and girls to marry early,” Yashoda was quoted as saying in an interview by India TV.
“Girls should study and develop their skills so that they can do something in the future,” she felt.
Yashoda’s efforts have also earned her praise from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s office on social media.
