New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal went to Jantar Mantar on Saturday to express his support for wrestlers protesting against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has been accused of sexual harassment by Sakshi Malik and others.
“Wrestlers who have made the country proud have been protesting at Jantar Mantar for the past week. They have been insulted. Those who harass women should be hanged,” Kejriwal said after meeting the wrestlers at the protest site.
Accusing the Central government of shielding Brij Bhushan, who is a BJP MP, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief said it was unfortunate that the wrestlers had to approach Supreme Court to get FIR lodged against the WFI boss.
Brij Bhushan has been named in two FIRs, based on complaints from seven women wrestlers, including a minor.
“Anna Hazare came here and changed politics. This demonstration will bring a change in sports. Those who love India, take a leave and join the protest,” Kejriwal said.
Leading wrestlers of the country, who have been on a dharna, said they will continue their agitation until the WFI chief is removed from all posts and is arrested.
Brij Bhushan has refused to step down, saying he is not a criminal.
“I am totally innocent… Will cooperate with any inquiry. Their (wrestlers) demands are changing constantly. Resigning would mean accepting the charges. They (charges) are politically motivated. I have never been convicted by any court in any case,” stated Brij Bhushan.
