Bhubaneswar: The Anti-Corruption Branch of the CBI, on Tuesday, nabbed three senior GST officials red-handed while they were allegedly accepting Rs 10 lakh as bribe to settle a GST and Central Excise case against a private engineering college.
The arrested are Superintendents of GST & Central Excise, Bhubaneswar Circle, Artabhanjan Kar, Pradip Kumar Acharya and NN Sahoo.
On a tip-off the CBI sleuths laid a trap in a luxury private hotel in the city. The three GST officials were caught accepting the amount from Ashutosh Padhy, Accounts Officer of Centurion Institute of Technology. The accounts officer has also been arrested for giving bribe.
Later searches were carried out at residence and office premises of the three senior GST officials and Padhy. More details are awaited
