Bhadrak: Three college students died while another was rescued in a critical condition after they drowned while taking a bath in Nalia river in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Pranay Kumar Lenka (17), Smrutiranjan Swain (17) and Rajat Kumar Jena (16), all belonging to Haripur village. They were Plus II students of Charampa College in Bhadrak district.
According to sources, Pranay, Smrutiranjan and Rajat along with another friend went to the river near Langudi under Bhadrak rural police limits this morning. While taking a bath, one among them slipped and drowned. The other three met the same fate while attempting to save him.
The four were rescued by Fire Service personnel and locals in critical condition. They were rushed to the district headquarters hospital, where doctors declared Pranaya, Rajat and Smrutiranjan as dead. Condition of the other student is stated to be critical.
Meanwhile, Bhadrak MLA Sanjib Mallick and many other leaders from the locality visited the hospital to console the bereaved families.
