Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm accompanied by rain brought relief from blistering heat in several parts of Odisha’s Nuapada district which was the second hottest place in the state on Sunday.
As per reports, a strong wind and sandstorm due to northwesterly activities hit Khariar town and its adjoining areas for some time in the afternoon. It was followed by a good spell of rain.
Due to the strong wind, several trees were uprooted on Khariar-Sinapalli road disrupting traffic communication for some time. However, Fire services personnel rushed to the affected places and restored traffic movement by removing the felled trees from the road.
Some houses and shops with thatches roof were reportedly damaged by the thunderstorm.
Earlier in the day, Nuapada recorded second highest maximum (day) temperature of 44 degree Celsius. Baripada was the hottest with a temperature of 44.6 degree Celsius as 9 places in the state recorded 43 degree or more.
