Bhubaneswar: Two Melanistic (dark coloured pigment) cubs were born to the tigress Renuka at the Nandankanan Zoological Park on Saturday morning.
According to Jayanta Das, Deputy Director of the zoo, CCTV footage shows that the two newborn cubs at enclosure no: 33 have thick black stripes on their body.
The health of the tigress and her two cubs is being constantly monitored, he said.
With the birth of these two Melanistic cubs, the number of Indian tigers in the zoo has gone up to 28 of which 15 are common tigers, nine white tigers and four Melanistic tigers.
