Tokyo: Bhavinaben Patel rewrote history as she became the first Indian to make it to the final of a table tennis event in the Paralympics assuring India of either the gold or the silver medal.
Bhavinaben achieved a hard-fought 3-2 victory over China’s Miao Zhang in a class 4 semi-final in Tokyo on Saturday.
The 34-year-old Indian got the better of her world No. 3 Chinese opponent 7-11 11-7 11-4 9-11 11-8 in the last-four clash that lasted only 34 minutes.
Participating in her first Paralympics, Patel lost the opening game in a tight contest but, made a strong comeback winning the next two games. She will face world number one Ying Zhou of China in the summit clash on Sunday.
