Berhampur: After around 20 cases of meter tampering were identified in the Chhatarpur division of Odisha’s Ganjam recently, the enforcement team of Tata Power Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) has launched a campaign against power theft.

Investigations revealed that consumers were employing various methods like remote circuit manipulation and use of magnets to tamper with meters, leading to power theft.

TPSODL’s enforcement team has been vigorously tracking all forms of power theft, including direct theft, meter tampering, meter bypass and parallel hooking.

TPSODL’s team, which possesses the expertise and equipment to detect any attempt of power theft, has strongly advised consumers not to engage in illegal activities.

Any individual caught practising power theft may face penalties.

Under section 135 of Indian Electricity Act, 2003, individuals involved in power theft can be subjected to penalties, including imprisonment for up to three years, fines, or both. Repeat offenders may be debarred from electricity supply.

TPSODL has appealed consumers to refrain from any illegal acts and encouraged responsible use of electricity.
