Berhampur: Following an initiative by Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC), members of the transgender community began collecting parking fees from two-wheeler and vehicle owners in two areas of the city from Tuesday.
BMC has appointed two groups of around 20 transgender for collecting the parking fees in Gandhi Nagar Girija Square and Annapurna Market Square areas. They have been equipped with POS machines and trained to issue e-tickets to vehicle owners.
Earlier, BMC had trained some transgender in the craft of shoe-making in order to empower members of the community in Berhampur.
