Sundargarh: In a bid to engage the transgenders in the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and broadbase their social acceptance, the district administration on Sunday appointed seven of them in different jobs related to COVID-19 pandemic.
On the order of district collector Nikhil Pavan Kalyan, one transgender has been appointed as Data Operator at COVID Care Centre in BPUT, Rourkela.
While another transgender has been engaged in the registration work at Chhend, Rourkela, five others have been appointed in attendant or sanitation worker posts at COVID Care Centre in BPUT, Rourkela.
All the transgenders have been appointed on provisional basis, official sources said.
