Puri: Police have arrested three employees of a a travel agency here for allegedly cheating tourists.
Those arrested have been identified as Abdul Jaffer of Panaspada village, and Bidyadhar Jena and Vichitra Jena of Raipur village.
According to sources, J Kamalesh Patel from Gujarat had hired a vehicle from a travel agency to visit Satapada. The family, which was putting up at a hotel at Chakratirth in the town, was forced to shell out Rs 6,500 for a boat ride at Raipur Ghat.
The vehicle was intercepted by police while they were returning to the Pilgrim Town. Patel narrated the incident to the cops, who then arrested the driver, Jaffer, and the Jenas of Raipur village. The vehicle was also seized.
Travel agencies in nexus with boat owners often cheat tourists at Satapada and Chilika Lake, the sources added.
