Sambalpur: One Abdul Rahim of Kumbarpara has allegedly cheated 35 people of Rs 28 lakh by promising them to arrange tickets, lodging and boarding for Haj and Umrah pilgrimages.
He had been given the money a year back as an advance in the name of Al Khatib Tours & Travels, Sambalpur. Adbul later told the applicants that he had transferred the money to Akbar Tours & Travels, Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
However, Akbar Tours & Travels in Raipur denied receiving any such money.
Abdul also allegedly threatened the applicants against going to police. He said he can’t do anything as he has transferred the money.
A case has been registered and police have reportedly assured appropriate action.
