Puri: Fresh digging began on Friday at Emar Mutt, located in the southeastern corner of the Shri Jagannath Temple, in Odisha’s temple town Puri to find more hidden treasures.
The digging is being done at three places. “Three places on the front part of the mutt are being dug up,” Sub-Collector Bhabataran Sahu said.
In 2011, 522 silver ingots weighing 18 tonnes were discovered inside the mutt. The silver ingots were worth ₹90 crore.
In April last year, 45 more silver ingots weighing about 35 kg each were found inside the mutt. Following the discovery, another treasure hunt was undertaken in September last year.
Besides silver ingots, a silver tree, silver flowers, 16 antique swords and a bronze cow sculpture have also been recovered from the mutt, which was stablished by Ramanujacharya in 1050 when he came to Puri.
