Bhubaneswar: A tribal woman has lodged a complaint in the Balichandrapur police station in Jajpur district seeking justice for her minor daughter who has become pregnant after being repeatedly raped in the residence of a senior OAS officer in Shailashree Vihar area in Bhubaneswar.
The woman, a native of Nanapur village in Jajpur district, in her complaint, has said that the livelihood of her family became precarious due to the prolonged illness of her husband. A person had advised her to engage her daughter in a job in Bhubaneswar with a monthly payment of Rs 3000. Later, she engaged her daughter as a domestic help in the residence of the concerned OAS officer.
According to her, after working for about two years in the house of the OAS officer, her daughter had come to her village during Dussehra. However, suspecting a change in her physical condition, she asked her daughter. The girl then confessed that the father-in-law of the OAS officer had repeatedly raped her for 5-6 months in his bedroom and used to threaten her with dire consequence if she reveals this to anyone.
“After listening to the ordeal of my daughter, I went to the hospital for a medical examination and found her daughter pregnant. Later, I lodged a complaint with the Balichandrapur police,” the mother said.
A senior official of the Balichandrapur Police Station said the statement of the victim has been recorded in the POCSO court under section 164 of the CrPC. The medical examination of the victim has been conducted in the district headquarters hospital on Tuesday.
The victim’s family has been allegedly receiving threat calls from the family of the OAS officer. The chairperson of the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR), Sandhyabati Pradhan said the Commission will take necessary steps in this regard.
