Bhubaneswar: Odisha Truck Owners’ Association on Thursday announced
that it would launch an indefinite strike from December 15, seeking
immediate fulfilment of their 11-point charter of demands.
“The state government has recently announced to impose green tax on
vehicles older than 15 years as plying of such vehicles cause damage
to life and property. We strongly oppose such move as the truckers
will have to pay Rs 4,000 annually, once such tax is implemented”,
association general secretary Rabi Satpathy said.
Other prominent demands of the association include reduction of sale
tax on diesel, fixation of minimum rent for trucks, construction of
truck terminals and to stop the illegal collection of fine by transport
department officials in the name of checking.
