Istanbul: The mortal remains of an Indian national, who had been missing since several massive earthquakes rocked Turkey and Syria, were found on Saturday.
The Indian Embassy in Turkey informed that the body of an Indian national, identified as Vijay Kumar, was recovered from under the debris of a hotel in Malatya, a city located in the Eastern Anatolia region of Turkey.
“We inform with sorrow that the mortal remains of Shri Vijay Kumar, an Indian national missing in Turkiye since February 6 earthquake, have been found and identified among the debris of a hotel in Malatya, where he was on a business trip,” Embassy tweeted.
“Our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. We are making arrangements for the earliest possible transportation of his mortal remains to his family,” it added.
A technician employed with Bengaluru-based gas-plant company Oxyplant India Pvt Ltd, Kumar had travelled to Turkey on January 25 for work and was staying at Avsar Hotel, Malatya, reported The Quint.
Kumar, who hails from Uttarakhand, was deputed to Turkey for installation and commissioning of an acetylene gas plant in Malatya.
He wife Pinky Gaur have a 6-year-old son, the website reported. His father Ramesh Chand Gaur passed away two months ago after a cardiac arrest.
The death toll in the devastating earthquakes, which struck southern Turkey and northern Syria on February 6, has crossed 26,000 and counting.
