Angul: A tusker was electrocuted after falling into a trap set up by poachers at Jagannathpur under Pampasar range of Satkosia wildlife sanctuary in Odisha’s Angul district, Regional Chief Conservator of Forest (RCCF) Joga Nanda informed on Saturday.
The electric trap was allegedly laid in the forest for wild boars.
Locals spotted the carcass of the elephant and informed the forest department. On being informed, Satkosia Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Saroj Panda arrived at the spot along with a team.
The actual cause of death of the tusker will be known from the postmortem report. A manhunt has been launched to apprehend the poachers who laid the trap.
Forest officials have detained some people in the range office and are questioning them.
