Angul: A day after an elephant was found dead in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district, the carcass of another tusker was recovered near a village in Angul district on Saturday.
According to sources, the locals spotted the adult elephant near Mundapada village located under Athmallik forest division in the district in the morning and informed the forest officials.
A team of officials from the Athmallik forest division visited the spot on being informed and launched an investigation.
Preliminary probe indicated that the tusker died after coming in contact with live electric wire spread by some poachers to hunt animals. Efforts are on to identify those responsible for the incident.
On Friday, a tusker was found dead in a forest near Rankia village under Jiral forest section of Bhuban forest range of Dhenkanal district. The elephant was bleeding in its trunk and electric wires were found scattered on the ground.
