Two Arrested For Duping Over 200 Job Seekers In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Bhubaneswar, on Monday busted a job fraud racket with the arrested of two persons on charges of duping over 200 job seekers of Odisha.

The accused have been identified as Rajkishore Pattnaik and Arun Mohanty, both natives of Balasore and residing in Bhubaneswar.

According to an EOW release, Kumudini Sahoo of Bhubaneswar had lodged a complaint accusing Rajkishore Pattnaik, Arun Mohanty and Bhawani Shankar Das of duped her of Rs.8.15 lakh on the pretext of providing her a clerical job at Raj Bhawan at a monthly salary of Rs 34,000. Rajkishore contacted her first and went incommunicado after she paid him Rs 2 lakh as advance. Then she came in contact with accused Arun Mohanty and Bhawani Shankar Das, who assured her a job within a week and demanded Rs 7 lakh. She paid the amount but never got the promised job.

The scammers, who reportedly identified themselves as journalists, also cheated one Sushant Kumar Muduli of Rs 1.05 lakh by promising to engage him as a school peon, Rs 4.50 lakh from one Deepak Kumar Nayak for peon post in Khurda Collectorate, Rs 2 lakh from one Dipu Biswal for peon post at Raj Bhawan, Bhubaneswar.

The investigation revealed that they had duped hundreds of job aspirants by showing them forged/fabricated government letters/ logo/seal/selection list. The EOW seized forged appointment letters, joining letters and seals of Lok Seva Bhawan and Secretariat, hundreds of resumes, mark sheets, application forms and fake appointment letters for different posts like peon, clerk, fire man, security guard at Raj Bhawan, Education Department, Energy Department, Secretariat, Traffic Police, Excise Department, Kendriya Vidyalaya and Income Tax Department.

Further investigation is on, it added.
