Koraput: Police have arrested two persons for alleged murder of a man over suspicion of practising sorcery in Odisha’s Koraput district.
According to sources, the villagers of Nuaguda under Baipariguda police station in the district suspected that Bhim Naik of the village was practising sorcery. They held him responsible for untimely death of three villagers in a short time.
Agitated over Bhim’s suspicious activities, two villagers, Baldev Mundagudiya and Bhagwan Gadba, hatched a conspiracy to eliminate him. As per their plan, while Bhim was returning home on the night of October 22, they intercepted him at an isolated spot on the way.
The duo beat up Bhim mercilessly and then hit him on the head with a stone. Then they beheaded with an axe and buried the parts of the body in a nearby hill.
As Bhim did not return home till next morning, his wife Danai Naik filed a complaint at Baipariguda police station. Following investigation, they detained Baldev and Bhagwan on suspicion and questioned them. The duo revealed the entire incident during the question.
The accused told the police that they suspected that Bhim’s sorcery practice had led to death of three villagers besides causing health problems to others. Following their confession, the police arrested the two persons.
