New Delhi: Two Indian students studying at Dundee University in Scotland lost their lives in an accident at a Scottish waterfall, reported the UK news portal The Courier. The victims, identified as 26-year-old Jitendranath ‘Jitu’ Karuturi and 22-year-old Chanhakya Bolisetti, were enjoying a hike with a friend near the scenic Linn of Tummel waterfall in Blair Atholl on Wednesday (April 17).

According to reports, they fell into the water while trying to take a picture. Both Jitu and Chanhakya were pursuing Master’s degrees in data science and engineering at Dundee University.

The friends, both from India, were hiking with another friend when they fell into the water.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said, “Around 7pm on Wednesday, we received a report of two men, aged 22 and 26 years, in the water at the Linn of Tummel waterfall near Blair Atholl. Emergency services attended and following searches in the area, the bodies of two men were recovered from the water. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, however, there would not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding these deaths. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal,” reported the Daily Record. Jitu had studied in the US before and worked at Taza Indian Buffet in Dundee.

His manager, Vaseem Salimi, described him as calm, reliable, and hardworking. He said, “Everybody is devastated. Jitu was really popular with everybody.” Chanhakya graduated from the JNTUH College of Engineering Hyderabad in 2022.

“This has been a tragic accident which has shocked us all, and our thoughts are with the families and friends of the students, a spokesperson for Dundee University told the Courier
