Bhubaneswar: While most of the coastal, south and south interior districts of Odisha experienced heavy showers due to Cyclone Gulab, the rainfall activities are likely to continue for another two weeks with back-to-back low pressures brewing over the Bay of Bengal.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday said that the cyclonic circulation formed over the east-central and adjoining north-east Bay of Bengal off Myanmar coast on Monday now lies over the north-east and adjoining the east-central Bay of Bengal.
Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal off West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coasts during the next 12 hours.
There will be heavy rainfall mostly in the northern and north interior districts for two days from September 29. Besides, there will be thunderstorms with lightning at many places in the coastal districts during the period.
According to senior meteorologist Dr Surendranath Pasupalak, a cyclonic circulation set to form over the western Pacific Ocean on October 3 will move along the Philippines coast on October 5, the South China Sea on October 6 and Myanmar coast on October 7.
It will head towards the east-central Bay of Bengal on October 8 where it will turn into a low-pressure area on October 9. Due to this, there will be heavy rainfall in Odisha for three days till October 12.
