Jeypore: Two more persons have been arrested in connection with the firing incident on Jeypore-based businessman Adarsh Agrawal.

While the kingpin behind the crime Abhijit Mahuria of Jeypore’s Christian Peta area was arrested on March 6, police nabbed Firoz Nag of Jamunaguda and Sachin Nayak of Hanaguda area on Saturday. Two other accomplices are still at large.

Elaborating on their modus operandi, police said Mahuria along with his accomplices Firoz Nag, Imran Khan and Tulu Khosla plotted to extort money from businessman Pawan Agrawal last month. They collected his number from his employee Sachin Nayak. Later, Mahuria purchased five pre-activated sim cards from Borigumma and called Pawan demanding Rs 50 lakh. He threatening to kill his son Adarsh if he did not cough up the amount.

Pawan initially assured them that he would pay the money if they lowered their demands but they paid no heed to it. When they gave him an ultimatum to pay the amount, by February 26, he switched off his phone.

The accused then stalked Adarsh for four days and opened fire on him near Jaytimill area while he was on his way home for lunch on March 4. The latter, however, managed to escape unscathed.

Two days later, police arrested Mahuria and seized the gun used in the crime. Efforts are on to nab Imran Khan and Tulu Khosla , who are still at large, Koraput SP Abhinav Sonkar told the media.
