Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience a fresh spell of heavy rain with ‘North Indian Ocean Extended Range Outlook for Cyclogenesis’ issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting the formation of two cyclonic circulations over the Bay of Bengal within the next 13 days.
“The guidance from various numerical models including IMD GFS, GEFS, ECMWF, NCUM, NEPS, NCEP GFS does not indicate any cyclogenesis over the North Indian Ocean during the next two weeks. However, these models show the likely formation of a cyclonic circulation over the north Bay of Bengal during the middle of week 1 (September 23 to 29) and another over the central Bay of Bengal during the middle of week 2 (September 30 to October 6),” it said.
Earlier, the MeT office had correctly predicted the intensification of a cyclonic circulation over east-central and adjoining southeast BoB on September 19, two weeks in advance. The system, which was seventh this monsoon season, had triggered heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha.
It moved northwestwards across north Odisha, north Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh and became less marked over northwest Madhya Pradesh and its neighbourhood, it added.
