Bhubaneswar: In a rare honour, two tribals including a woman from Odisha have been invited as guests to attend the 71st Republic Day celebrations on January 26 in New Delhi.
Gangadhar Hembram and Japani Majhi from Santal tribal community in Mayurbhanj district reached New Delhi on Thursday to witness the Republic Day parade on January 26.
They are among over 50 tribals invited by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs from across the country.
Gangadhar Hembram, a resident Hati Sahi village under Khunta Block in Mayurbhanj district, is a Headmaster and has been working for the promotion of Santali language.
Japani Majhi, a social worker, is from Hutapur village under Betnoti Block in Mayurbhanj district.
They are scheduled to meet the President, Vice-President, Prime Minister and Union ministers. Later, the invited guests will be felicitated by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs at a special programme.
