Koraput: Two persons have been hospitalised after being affected by anthrax in Odisha’s Koraput district.
According to sources, the two persons, identified as Adu Jani and Bhagwan Kirisani of Devighat village under Koraput block in the district, have been admitted in the community health centre (CHC) at Mathalput.
Dr Muktikant Khatua, PIO of the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) said the two patients are undergoing treatment in the isolation ward of the hospital.
The sources said 10 families of the village had consumed stale beef around two days back. Later, six villagers fell sick and were suspected to have been affected by anthrax.
On getting the information, the chief district medical officer (CDMO) deputed a medical team to the village. The team carried out health check-up of 410 people and took samples of the six sick persons for testing.
After the report from the laboratory confirmed that two samples had tested positive for anthrax, Janu and Kirisani were admitted in the hospital.
The CDMO said they were keeping a close watch on the situation and he has directed the affected persons to remain in isolation as a precautionary measure.
