Bhubaneswar: A total of 5950 beggars have been identified in Odisha, said Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disability minister Ashok Chandra Panda in the State Assembly on Saturday.
The minster, in a written reply to a question, said that Cuttack district tops the list with 1060 beggars followed by 545 in Ganjam, 423 in Sundargarh, 366 in Puri and 197 in Khurda district.
He said that the state government has decided to make these beggars self-sufficient by providing them with vocational training. “It has been decided that two vocational training centres will be opened in Puri and Bhubaneswar for the beggars and they will be provided with necessary kits to start their own business after the training,” he added.
