Cuttack: With filing of nomination papers for elections to urban local bodies in the state starting today, the Congress announced alliance with Left parties and the name of its mayor candidate for Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).

Speaking to media persons, here on Wednesday, Barabati MLA of the Congress Mohammad Moquim said his party has forged an alliance with CPI and CPI (M) to contest in the CMC elections.

Stating that the Congress had entered into alliance with both parties in 2019 general elections, Moquim said the Left parties will field their candidates for two corporator posts in the election in the city as per agreement.

The legislator also announced the name of Giribala Behera as the Congress candidate for mayor post in the CMC. Giribala, a senior leader of the party, had taken up several development works during her stint as corporator earlier.

Speaking at a felicitation function organised for her nomination as mayor candidate in Moquim’s house, Giribala said making CMC corruption-free will top her agenda, if she is elected to the post.

Moquim released the list of Congress nominees for 11 out of the total 59 corporator posts in the CMC. They will file their nominations on Thursday. The names of the rest candidates will be announced in a day or two, said the MLA.
