Bhubaneswar: In a bid to provide better service to research scholars and maintain quality research work, the Odisha government is contemplating uniform research guidelines for the state public universities after discussion with the varsities.
Following discussion with the varsity vice-chancellors, Odisha State Higher Education Council (OSHEC) will frame the guidelines.
“There is a lot of difference among state universities. They have their own rules and we don’t want to interfere in their business. But the universities should provide services to scholars in a time-bound manner,” an official from the council said.
“Some universities take lot of time for registration of students for PhD programmes. Some candidates have completed their PhD course works, but they do not get respective guides to commence their research work. The institutions also take several months to approve and award the PhD degree after submission of their theses. These problems should be solved by setting a timeline for these services,” a council member said.
The issue will be addressed in the guidelines. To avoid delay, there will be a deadline for the registration of PhD students and the approval of the thesis to award degrees to the scholars within a time frame. Anti-plagiarism software will be used to maintain the quality of research.
