Panaji: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari cautioned the BJP to be careful about not repeating the mistakes of Congress party which led to its electoral defeats.

“If we continue doing what the Congress used to do, there is no use of their exit and our entry,” Gadkari said during a Goa BJP executive meeting in Panaji in the presence of the party’s state unit chief Sadanand Tanavade and chief minister Pramod Sawant.

Recalling his mentor Lal Krishna Advani’s words, Gadkari said the former deputy Prime Minister used to say that the BJP is a ‘party with a difference’ and that is why it has repeatedly won the trust of voters, reported PTI.

“Advani ji used to say that we are a party with a difference. We have to understand how different we are from the other parties,” the former BJP president said.

The Lok Sabha MP from Nagpur stated that people in India have elected the BJP because of the Congress’ mistakes.

“That is why, in the days to come, party cadres should know that politics is an instrument for bringing social and economic reforms,” the Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways said in the course of his 40-minute speech.

“We have to create a corruption-free country and for that, we should have a plan in place,” he pointed out.

Gadkari’s comments come nearly a month and a half after BJP formed the government for the third straight time, but without achieving majority on its own.

On Saturday, BJP came out second best in the Assembly byelections, winning just 2 out of 13 seats across seven states. The Opposition INDIA bloc parties grabbed 10 seats.
