Imphal: The renewed violence in Manipur has affected even a Union Minister.

The house of External Affairs Minister of State RK Ranjan Singh in Imphal’s Kongba area was vandalised and set on fire by a mob on Thursday night.

“I am shocked. The law and order situation in Manipur has totally failed,” Ranjan Singh told ANI on Friday.

The mob roamed the streets of Imphal on Thursday, burning two houses and clashing with Rapid Action Force of Manipur in the afternoon.

At night, the mob targeted the Union minister’s house.

Security guards and firefighters managed to control arson attempts and prevented the minister’s house from being completely burnt down, officials told PTI.

On Wednesday, Manipur minister Nemcha Kipgen’s official quarters in the Lamphel area of Imphal West district was set on fire by unidentified people.

None was present in Kuki community leader Kipgen’s bungalow when it was torched.

Firefighters doused the flames before the blaze could spread to the neighbourhood.

Earlier this week, nine people were killed and 10 others injured when miscreants attacked a village in Khamenlok area of ethnic strife-hit Manipur.

Over 100 people have lost their lives and more than 300 injured since ethnic violence between Meitei and Kuki communities broke out in Manipur in early May.
