Washington DC: The United States President Donald Trump said on Friday that the country will ban social media application TikTok after American authorities raised suspicions that the app could be a Chinese intelligence tool.

“As far as TikTok is concerned, we’re banning them from the United States,” Trump said while speaking to media on Air Force One.

The president added he would take in a day’s time using emergency economic power or an executive order.

The US lawmakers and officials have raised concerns that the particular app is used for nefarious activities by China though the company has denied any links with the Chinese government.

The US President’s decision was followed by a review by Committee on Foreign Investment (CFIUS) in the US. CFIUS probes into deals that affect national security.

Video platform TikTok is particularly popular with younger generation and has an estimated one billion users across the globe.

“We are confident in the long-term success of TikTok. Hundreds of millions of people come to TikTok for entertainment and connection, including our community of creators and artists who are building livelihoods from the platform,” saying this TikTok refused to any further comment on the matter to a query from news agency AFP.
