Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has accorded university status to Dharanidhar Autonomous College in Odisha’s Keonjhar district.

“In exercise of powers conferred by sub-section (1) and (2) of Section 32 of the Odisha University Act, 1989 (Odisha Act 5 of 1989), the State Government do hereby alter the territorial Jurisdiction of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University, Baripada, Mayurbhanj by establishing a new University,” notification dated 11 February 2023 issued by the Higher Education Department said.

The new university will be called Dharanidhar University with effect from the date of notification in the Odisha gazette, it added.

According to sources, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is scheduled to visit Koenjhar on Monday to dedicate the new University.

Secretary to CM (5T) VK Pandian also posted a video, showing the varsity notification to CM. “Happy news for Keonjhar. The historic Dharanidhar Autonomous College becomes a university. This landmark decision by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will immensely help students of Keonjhar district and nearby areas,” he wrote.

Earlier this month, Vikram Deb Autonomous College (VDAC), Jeypore in Koraput district, was granted varsity status a day before Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s visit to the institute as a chief guest as it kicks off its two-day platinum jubilee celebrations.
