Bhubaneswar: Hours before the likely announcement of unlocking guidelines, a senior official of the Odisha Health Department on Wednesday said that relaxation in lockdown restrictions was essential to sustain the livelihoods of people.

“Unlocking is necessary for sustenance but the government will announce new guidelines by taking into account various factors of infection outbreak at the district level. Relaxations will be allowed but restrictions will continue wherever necessary,” Director Medical Education and Training (DMET) CBK Mohanty told the mediapersons here.

He said that the process of relaxing restrictions should be carefully calibrated and done in a phase-wise manner.

If official sources are to be believed, most of the ongoing curbs are likely to end in the next 24 hours. The state government is likely to ease the restrictions and take the pressure off livelihood sources by allowing all non-essential shops and business establishments across the districts to operate till 7 pm.

Certain restrictions, however, will continue with Rath yatra round the corner.
