Koraput: In a shocking incident, two lovers were found hanging from a tree on the outskirt of a village in Odisha’s Koraput district on Saturday.
According to reports, the incident took place at Jodipai of Chanabada panchayat under the jurisdiction of Dasmantpur police station of the district. Opposition by their family members to their decision to marry was stated to have driven the two to take the extreme step.
The deceased were identified as Mahendra Hikka and his girlfriend Jubanti Muska.
Sources said Mahendra and Jubanti were in love with each other for the last two years. However, Jubanti’s family members were against her relationship with Mahendra and not allowing them to get married.
Villagers found the two hanging from the tree with a stole and informed their family members as well as the police.
On being informed, a team of police personnel from Dasmantpur visited the site and recovered the bodies which were sent for postmortem. Investigation into the incident is in progress.
