New Delhi: In an unprecedented drama involving a political leader, BJP’s Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga was arrested by Punjab Police on Friday morning before Delhi Police intervened and took his custody, with assistance from Haryana Police.
The charge against Bagga, BJP’s Yuva Morcha general secretary, is that he refused to cooperate with the investigation even after notices were sent five times.
He was booked a month ago for his statements against Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal over the latter’s views on the movie ‘The Kashmir Files’.
Following Bagga’s arrest from his residence in Janakpuri area, Delhi Police filed an FIR against Punjab Police for alleged ‘kidnapping’ of Bagga based on a complaint by the latter’s father.
Due procedure was not followed in arresting Bagga, Delhi Police claimed.
The Punjab Police team, which was taking Bagga to Mohali, was intercepted en route by Haryana Police personnel, who surrounded the police vehicle and escorted them off the highway to a police station in Kurukshetra.
Even as Delhi Police was bringing Bagga back to his home city, Punjab Police approached the Punjab & Haryana High Court over illegal custody of the BJP leader.
The high court turned down Punjab’s plea against taking Bagga back to Delhi and adjourned the case for tomorrow.
BJP workers staged massive protests in parts of Delhi, including outside Kejriwal’s house, claiming that he was resorting to vendetta politics.
Bagga is likely to be produced in a Delhi court after he is brought back to the national Capital.
