UP Exempts Fare For Homebound Migrant Labourers On Shramik Special Trains

Lucknow: Migrant labourers returning to Uttar Pradesh on Shramik Special trains will not be charged any fare from now on, the state government said.

“Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has decided that no money will be charged from migrant labourers coming on trains run on the state’s request by the Railways,” Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Avanish Awasthi said.

Besides, the UP government has also ensured that no migrant labourer has to return to the state by walking or on two-wheelers, Awasthi was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.

The CM has also said that the data of all the migrant labourers is being recorded and they will be given employment according to their skills.

Awasthi informed that all the returnee labourers were medically tested and then sent to strict home quarantine with food packets.

Till Thursday, 3.84 lakh migrant labourers were brought back to UP from other states, whereas 72,637 people including students, have been brought back by state-owned buses.
