Aurangabad (Bihar): A losing candidate for the post of Panchayat head’s post in Bihar’s Aurangabad district has been arrested after a video went viral that showed him assaulting two Dalit men.
The candidate, Balwant Singh, has been accused of blaming the Dalit community for his defeat and beating up two Dalit men as they allegedly did not vote for him, reported NDTV.
Balwant was heard saying that despite the voters being paid, they did not vote for him. In the video, he is seen verbally abusing the two and punishing them by forcing them to do sit-ups while holding their ears.
He then physically assaulted one person and forced him to spit on the ground and lick it. He is seen holding the man by the neck and forcing him to the ground.
However, Balwant accused the two men of creating nuisance after getting drunk, and he punished them after they got sober. The video though establishes the fact that Balwant was talking about paying them to vote for him.
Soon after the video went viral, the cops acted swiftly and arrested the accused following the district’s Superintendent of Police Kantesh Kumar Mishra’s direction. The matter is under investigation, Mishra said.
