Bhubaneswar: A young engineer allegedly took his own life by jumping off 8th floor of Chandrama Complex Apartment in Bhubaneswar.
The deceased has been identified as Ronit Jena (23).
According to sources, the incident took place in the early hours of Saturday. His family said that he recently broke up with his girlfriend and was upset over it, which might have prompted him to take the extreme step. “He returned from Berhampur on Friday evening after taking an exam and later took his mother for pandal hopping. He had ice cream at night and then retired to his room. The next morning, some people knocked on our door to inform that he had jumped off the building,” his father told the media.
He further stated that they later got to know about his affair with a woman from his friends. “She had taken a lot of money from him. Perhaps, he had even taken loan for it and was sacred to tell us about it. We suspect he was under tremendous stress because of it,” he added.
In a suicide note purportedly written by him, he has sought forgiveness from his parents.
His relatives have demanded to bring the woman, who is said to be from Berhampur, under the purview of the investigation.
